Top 10 things to do in Oslo

Oslo is the gorgeous capital in one of Scandinavia’s most beautiful countries, Norway. Here is my breakdown of the Top 10 things to do:

1.Scream’ with delight appreciating Edvard Munch and other great artists at the National Museum

2.Take in the main sights, sounds and shops strolling down Karl Johans Gate. I know this is a cliche and like walking into a tourist trap, but it’s very chilled and some of the buildings you pass, the Royal Palace, Parliament and Oslo University buildings are well worth it

3.Watch some performance art and generally marvel at the architectural beauty at the Oslo Opera House

4.Try all sorts of International food and Norweigan fusion food with a twist at Mathellan

5.Feel like your walking through glistening white Narnia exploring Akerhus Fortress and Castle.

6.Head to the top of the imposing ski jump at Holmenkollen and learn about 9 month old skiing Norwegians, let your eyes take in the unparalled views over Oslo city and Oslo Fjord and test your fear of heights imagining being a ski jumper

7.Stroll through trendy Grunerløkka and enjoy the food and atmosphere at Delicatessen followed by a sophisticated cocktail in quirky surroundings at Bottega.

8.Don your warmest clothes and sense of adventure and head to Korketrekkeren and enjoy the toboggan ride down through a snow capped forest before boarding a tram back to the top and doing it all over again

9.Enjoy views over the city, watch the cross country skiers and warm up by a roaring grand fireplace sampling some Elk and traditional Norwegian fare at Frognerseteren

10.Tick that ‘once in a lifetime’ bucket list item by booking a day husky dog sledding in Beitostollen National Park. I guarantee that the incredibly cute dogs, white pillowy snow and mythical landscape will stay with you long after you’re back home

So there you have it, 10 wonderful things to do in and around Oslo. We can’t recommend it enough for a weekend away, it’s not too far, the people friendly, the food delicious and the views out of this world!
